Work underway to solve flooding at Drumbee Bog

Minister Michelle O’Neill, has approved flood prevention works at the Drumbee Bog area of Armagh.
Friday, 22 February 2013

This work was necessary following an increased level of flooding, created by a supply culvert to a, now disused, reservoir.

The Minister, who has responsibility for the Rivers Agency, said: “My staff have been working at the site since last week, in very difficult circumstances, and have successfully located a blockage in the culvert and re-routed flow around it. The water level in the bog is currently being lowered although it is likely to be several days before road flooding starts to dissipate and flow in the culvert has reduced sufficiently to allow repair work to begin.

“This is good news for the people living in the Drumbee Bog area, who have experienced considerable distress and inconvenience as a result of this flooding.”

The Minister added: “I am grateful for the cooperation of the other relevant agencies to find a solution to this problem and I am very hopeful that my staff in Rivers Agency will be able to bring the work to a successful conclusion.”
