O’Neill opens Rural Women’s Network new premises

Rural Development Minister, Michelle O’Neill today opened new offices in Dungannon for the Rural Women’s Network’ (NIRWN).

NIRWN is a regional network established to articulate the voice of women in rural areas. The Network, through its programme of work highlights the valuable contribution rural women make to the rural development agenda.

Speaking at the opening the Minister said: “DARD has supported NIRWN as part of the rural community development infrastructure for many years and remains committed to ensuring continued support for rural women and women’s organisations which I feel provide a vital service to the entire community.”

The Minister continued: “Within the context of the Rural White Paper Action Plan, a joint programme is under development with DSD to support women in disadvantaged areas and women in rural areas and I welcome NIRWN’s commitment to this process. I believe this new approach will deliver advantages for rural women in terms of leadership, shared learning and a solid support structure.”
