Gildernew meets Association of Seafood CompaniesWednesday, 24 June 2009
Fisheries Minister Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA met with representatives of the Irish Association of Seafood Companies (IASC) to discuss matters affecting fish processors throughout Ireland.
Speaking after the meeting the Minister said: "This was a good opportunity to get an all Ireland perspective on fish processing and discuss how the industry is working hard to develop itself and rise to the challenges it faces. I outlined the work of the Fisheries Forum here and how it will advise me on the future strategic direction for the fishing industry, in terms of restructuring, modernisation and securing it a competitive and sustainable future.
"We also discussed how measures within the European Fisheries Fund could be used to benefit local processors and how we could achieve synergies with activities in the South in order to derive the maximum benefit from our efforts.”
