Gildernew calls in at Saintfield Show

Monday, 21 June 2010

Minister Michelle Gildernew MP MLA has visited Saintfield Show in County Down.

During her visit, Dr Jimmy McKelvey, President and Jim Kirk, Chairman showed the Minister around the sights of this year’s Saintfield show. Over the course of her tour, the Minister took in livestock judging, trade stands and met local farmers.

Discussing her visit, the Minister said: "The agricultural show season is something which I look forward to every year. Our local agricultural shows are unique in content and character and are a significant aspect of the summer charm of rural life.

"I am beginning my annual visits to several local agricultural shows this summer, with Saintfield Show. Saintfield, like other agricultural shows, demonstrates vibrant equine displays and livestock classes. As a one day annual show, Saintfield is impressive with strong attendance, well-turned out stock and high quality displays."

She added: "I find agricultural shows such as Saintfield very encouraging, with the rural population coming out in force and supporting their farmers’ efforts at these shows. The organisers are to be commended for providing such a great family day out for the local community. I look forward to attending several other agricultural shows over the summer months.”
