Gildernew announces £2.5million modernisation funding for the local fishing industry
Wednesday, 1 September 2010Fisheries Minister Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA has announced that the £2.5m Vessel Modernisation and Selectivity Measure of the European Fisheries Fund had opened for applications from the local fishing fleet.
Announcing the opening of the scheme, the Minister said: “The Vessel Modernisation and Selectivity Measure will provide £2.5 million of much needed grant support to our 330 licenced fishing vessels. The support is aimed at helping the industry become more efficient, sustainable and safer.
“The approved scheme has been designed to address the key areas of need identified by the industry itself in the 2009 survey of the fleet’s modernisation needs, including safety, quality, energy efficiency, use of technology and improved working conditions.”
