Farming Minister has talks with new Defra Minister of State

Minister Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA today held discussions with Jim Paice MP, the new Minister of State at Defra with responsibility for Agriculture and Food.

The discussions, which were conducted by teleconference, focused on four key issues which are of strategic significance for agriculture locally. They include CAP Reform, the SFP disallowance issue, TB eradication and the free movement of pets on the island of Ireland.

Speaking afterwards Ms Gildernew said: "This was an extremely useful exchange of views and of crucial importance in ensuring that our local voice is heard clearly by the British Government. I was keen to engage with Minister Paice at the earliest opportunity and outline my Department’s objectives and ongoing concerns over CAP Reform and the Disallowance issue.

The Ministers also discussed TB eradication and Ms Gildernew added: "Today’s talks also presented an opportunity to listen to and probe the British Government’s thinking in relation to TB eradication. I will be following developments in this area closely."
