100 Líofa Gaeltacht Bursaries for 2014 100 Sparánacht Gaeltachta Líofa in 2014

Culture Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín, has encouraged applications for the 2014 Líofa Bursary scheme.
Friday, 31 January 2014

Tá Carál Ní Chuilín, an tAire Cultúir, ag spreagadh daoine le hiarratas a chur isteach ar scéim Sparánachtaí Líofa 2014.

Líofa, the Minister’s campaign to bring the Irish language to a wider audience in the north, is sponsoring 100 places at colleges in Irish-speaking areas in Donegal.

Tá urraíocht á cur ar fáil faoi choinne 100 áit i gcoláistí i nDún na nGall atá lonnaithe i gceantair ina mbíonn an Ghaeilge á labhairt. Tá an urraíocht le fáil faoi Líofa, feachtas an Aire le tuilleadh daoine sa tuaisceart a chur ag labhairt na Gaeilge.

The Minister said; “I have found that when learning Irish it is invaluable to be surrounded by people speaking and using the language. I would like to ensure that as many people as possible are able to learn or improve their Irish by visiting the Gaeltacht and attending Irish Language summer courses.

Arsa an tAire; “De réir mo thaithí féin, tá sé fíorluachmhar bheith i gcuideachta daoine a labhraíonn Gaeilge agus tú ag foghlaim na teanga. Ba mhaith liom a chinntiú go mbeidh deis ag oiread daoine agus is féidir an Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim nó snas a chur uirthi trí sheal a chaitheamh sa Ghaeltacht agus freastal ar chúrsaí Gaeilge sa samhradh.

“Through the Líofa Gaeltacht Bursary scheme I have been able to ensure that we can support people who may previously have been unable to access this enriching Gaelic cultural experience due to financial constraints. I know that for many families the cost of going to the Gaeltacht can be an additional financial burden. This scheme offers practical financial assistance to people who have signed up to the Líofa challenge and pledged to reach fluency in Irish by 2015.

Trí scéim Sparánachtaí Gaeltachta Líofa, tá mé in ann a chinntiú gur féidir linn tacaíocht a thabhairt do dhaoine nach raibh in ann dul chun na Gaeltachta roimhe seo mar gheall ar shrianta airgeadais le go bhfaighidh siad blaiseadh den eispéireas saibhir cultúrtha atá le fáil sa Ghaeltacht. Tuigim go maith gur ualach mór airgeadais ag cuid mhór teaghlach an costas a bhaineann le turas chun na Gaeltachta. Tugann an scéim seo cúnamh praiticiúil airgeadais do dhaoine atá cláraithe le Líofa agus atá ag tabhairt aghaidh ar an dúshlán bheith líofa sa Ghaeilge faoi 2015.

“I would encourage all those who are eligible to apply for the bursary scheme. I am sure all those able to attend will find it a rewarding experience and a great way to meet new people. With a mixture of formal classes and activities students can improve their fluency in the Irish language and deepen their awareness of their heritage. I believe that the rich cultural heritage on this island is something we all share and something we can all embrace and enjoy. The Irish language should be open to everyone, irrespective of their tradition, background or financial circumstances.”

Is mian liom gach duine is incháilithe a spreagadh le cur isteach ar an scéim sparánachtaí. Tá mé cinnte gur eispéireas luachmhar a bheidh ann dóibh siúd a rachaidh chun na Gaeltachta agus go mbuailfidh siad le cairde nua. Beidh meascán de ranganna foirmiúla agus gníomhaíochtaí eile ann a chuideoidh le foghlaimeoirí na Gaeilge éirí níos líofa agus cur leis an eolas atá acu ar a n-oidhreacht. Creidim gur rud atá i gcoitinne againn uile í oidhreacht shaibhir chultúrtha an oileáin seo, rud ar féidir linn uile tairbhe agus taitneamh a bhaint as. Ba chóir go mbeadh fáil ag gach aon duine ar an Ghaeilge, is cuma cén traidisiún nó cúlra lena mbaineann sé nó sí nó cad iad na cúinsí airgeadais acu.”
