Minister launches new motorcycling road racing championship

Wednesday, 14 April 2010

Sports Minister Nelson McCausland has launched the Armoy and Kells Road Racing Championship.

The new event will take place in two rounds in Kells, Irish Republic, on 18 July and in Armoy, Northern Ireland on 7 August. Riders will accumulate points during three races at each event, with the winners of each of the three classes declared after the Armoy races.

The Minister said: "Road racing is part of the sporting and cultural fabric of Northern Ireland and this new race is an exciting addition to the racing calendar.

"Officials and members of both clubs should be congratulated for their hard work and initiative in organising this new concept for motorsport in Northern Ireland. I would like to wish the Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club every success in making the race and the Championship a major fixture in our local sporting calendar."
