Minister celebrates 20th Anniversary

Monday, 15 June 2009

Education Minister Caitríona Ruane has offered her congratulations to St. Colman’s Primary School, Kilkeel on reaching their 20th Anniversary.

At the celebration event, the pupils performed a school production of Alice in Wonderland.  Speaking afterwards, the Minister said; “It is a wonderful achievement to reach 20 years of unbroken education service to this community and is an exciting landmark for St. Colman’s Primary school.  Many teachers and pupils have been part of this school during that period and the high standard of work and care for pupils has always remained a constant.

“As Education Minister I am optimistic about the future of our education system in the north of Ireland.  There has been much discussion over the recent months about the reforms which are being made in order to further improve some outdated aspects of the education sector.  Schools like St. Colman’s however, demonstrate there is much exceptional work on going within our schools and we must celebrate the hard work and dedication teachers show everyday.

The Minister continued; “Together we can build an education sector which highlights and learns from the excellent work throughout the north, whilst putting in place changes to update and improve the systems which no longer work.”
