Minister turns down development proposal for Conlig Primary School
Thursday, 6 March 2008Education Minister, Caitriona Ruane, has turned down a development proposal for Conlig Primary School to acquire integrated status.
Explaining the reasons for her decision Mrs Ruane said: “Every development proposal for transformation to integrated status is carefully considered against a range of criteria including the long-term viability of the school and the potential impact upon other schools in the area. As Conlig Primary School has only 43 pupils and there is already integrated provision in the area, I believe that it would be inappropriate to approve the proposal.
“I met with representatives of the school and listened very carefully to their arguments before making my decision.
“I appreciate that this news will be disappointing for the school and parents but I must consider all the implications for the entire schools’ estate in the area.”
