Ruane announces funding for YMCA Carrickfergus

Friday, 21 May 2010

Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane, has confirmed funding of £350,000 for the YMCA Carrickfergus.

The financial backing will enable the organisation, or CYM as it is known, to carry out a major refurbishment, helping further improve the delivery of activities for young people.

Announcing the decision, the Minister said: “CYM has a long history of providing successful youth projects in the local area. Young people can attend the centre, make friends, play sports and have fun in safe surroundings. This in turn helps them develop crucial interpersonal skills as they grow into adulthood and complements well their school activities.

“With this funding, CYM will be able to improve its town centre premises, ensuring the organisation will be well-equipped to continue delivering high quality services for young people in Carrickfergus well into the future.”
