Have you got the ‘A’ Factor? – Search for 2012 Apprentice of the Year launched
The Employment and Learning Minister, Dr Stephen Farry, today launched the 2012 Apprentice of the Year awards.

The competition, now in its eleventh year aims to recognise the talent, excellence and determination of local apprentices. It has become the highlight of the year for many of those involved in apprenticeship training in Northern Ireland.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister said: “These awards are our opportunity to applaud apprentices who are advancing their careers through training and recognises employers who are investing in the skills of their workforce by supporting apprenticeships. The number and standard of excellent entries to the competition continues to grow each year and demonstrates how Apprenticeships can open doors to a better future.”
The 2012 award categories are:
- Apprentice of the Year
- Most Promising 1st Year Award
- Recognition Award
- Innovation in Partnership Award (for Employers and Training Suppliers)
Nominations are open now for the four categories. These much coveted awards are designed to recognise people involved in apprenticeship training in Northern Ireland, including: Employers, Training Suppliers and the Apprentices themselves.
The Minister continued: “Investing time and effort in developing the right skills benefits the economy and helps to meet the needs of local industry and employers. I would encourage all apprentices, employers and training partners to gain the recognition you deserve by entering the competition.”

The closing date for all categories is noon on Thursday 1 March 2012. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in the Holiday Inn, Belfast on Thursday 17 May 2012.
