Foster welcomes broadband campaign in Banbridge

Wednesday, 18 February 2009

Enterprise Minister, Arlene Foster today welcomed a new advertising campaign to promote the importance of access to broadband.

The campaign, launched by BT, will target the Banbridge District Council area and is aimed at local business and residents.

Arlene Foster said: “The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment has invested heavily in the provision of 100% access to broadband across all of Northern Ireland. Since December 2005, every business and household here can avail of a broadband connection and the campaign being launched today aims to encourage more people to get connected.

“I recognise the importance of broadband as a key component in driving the Northern Ireland economy forward. I will work with the business sector here to deliver widespread access and to create a modern, next generation broadband network by 2011.”

The Minister continued: “There is growing evidence to demonstrate the vital contribution broadband makes towards increased productivity and competitiveness. It also provides the high value added employment opportunities necessary to drive forward an increasingly knowledge-based economy.”
