Dromore retailer fined for failing to display prices

Thursday, 26 June 2008

Mr Joseph Lyttle of Lisnasure Interiors of Dromore was today fined £700 plus £19 court costs at Lisburn Magistrates' Court for failing to display prices.

In a case brought by the Trading Standards Service (TSS) of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Mr Joseph Howard Lyttle, trading as Lisnasure Interiors, 43 Lisnasure Road, Dromore pleaded guilty to 14 charges under the Prices Act 1974.

The offences were detected when Trading Standards Officers visited Mr Lyttle’s premises following a consumer complaint. It was found that Mr Lyttle failed to display prices for “white goods” which were on view for sale at his Lisnasure Interiors premises.

Trading Standards Enforcement Officer Julie Harrison said: “Pricing goods is a legal requirement. This is important as it gives consumers a clear indication of the price they will have to pay and allows them to compare prices before making the decision to buy. This result will highlight to traders the importance of pricing and that failure to display prices will not be tolerated.”

Consumers who come across retail premises where goods are not clearly priced should report it to Consumerline on 0845 600 6262/028 9025 3900 or online at the consumerline websitelink to external website
