The Minister was speaking at the opening of the Barclay’s Business Lending Clinic in Castle Place, which aims to provide practical help and advice about lending to business customers.

The Minister said: “I want to congratulate Barclays on this initiative. Bank lending to business is a major issue and the ability of local banks to meet the needs of businesses and consumers here is crucial for our recovery and continued prosperity. This initiative can help guide small businesses through the lending process, the different finance options that are available to them, and what is needed for a successful application.”

Minister Wilson continued: “We all recognise that the lending environment for both businesses and consumers is different to what it was a few years ago. But today’s event shows that lending is still available from the banks for viable projects. The data also shows that nine out of ten lending applications are approved here. I would encourage all businesses that are currently looking for investment to approach the banks for finance they need.

“The economy is the Executive’s top priority and we need our private sector to grow and succeed in order to help Northern Ireland recover. Initiatives such as this are a vital step forward in the right direction.”
