Laganside Events Grants (LEG) - Announcement

Following discussions between the First Minister, deputy First Minister, the Finance Minister and the Social Development Minister, £200,000 will be made available to the Minister of Social Development and his Department to continue grant assistance to the Laganside Events Grant.

The LEG supports a range of arts and cultural events designed to attract footfall and animation to the Laganside area to stimulate commercial and tourism development, provide employment and a positive business and amenity environment. The grant scheme is administered by DSD but future funding was in doubt.

The Finance Minister has indicated to DSD that, given he has some unallocated resources left after January Monitoring, he is content to provide this additional funding on two conditions:-

(i) that DSD takes steps to ensure that only groups that are viable over the longer term are assisted; and

(ii) that DSD and DCAL work together to identify a clear policy framework for continuing grant assistance to LEG.
