Wednesday, 14 November 2007The Connswater Community Greenway project has been awarded more than £23 million from the Big Lottery Fund.
The East Belfast project was successful in the highly competitive UK-wide ‘Living Landmarks’ programme. Expressing his delight at the news, Finance Minister and MP for East Belfast, Rt. Hon Peter Robinson, said:
“This is fantastic news for Northern Ireland in general and for Connswater Community Greenway in particular. Congratulations to the Greater East Belfast Partnership, as I know at first hand the dedication and commitment that has gone into consulting, designing and presenting this project.
“The hard work and commitment of all concerned has been recognised and rewarded in today’s announcement. Real and meaningful community involvement has been and will continue to be the project’s hallmark, as it will transform the waterways and green spaces in East Belfast, involve local communities and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
“I also recognise the positive impact that Lottery money has made here and the fact that, since 1995, the Big Lottery Fund has awarded over £374 million to more than 7000 projects in Northern Ireland. This brings about real improvements to communities and the lives of those most in need.”
