Health Minister condemns Antrim attack

Monday, 9 March 2009

The Health Minister has condemned last nights attack at Masserene Army Base in Antrim in which two soldiers were murdered and four other people were injured.

Michael McGimpsey said: "This was a terrible and cowardly attack. My sympathy and thoughts are with the families of the two soldiers who died and the four people who were injured.

"This attack stands in stark contrast to the courageous response from Health Service staff. Six ambulances and two rapid response vehicles were at the scene within minutes to deal with the incident.

"I'd like to thank all health service staff for their professionalism and dedication. Their dedication represents the Northern Ireland that we want, not the Northern Ireland that the perpetrators of this attack want."
