'Accident & Emergency at Belfast City Hospital not closing' - McGimpsey

Friday, 20 March 2009

Health Minister, Michael McGimpsey has said there will be no changes to services at Belfast City Hospital including Accident and Emergency.

The Minister said that a leaflet which is circulating in the Belfast area about services being cut at Belfast City Hospital is entirely false.

Michael McGimpsey said: “Since becoming Minister for Health in 2007, I have continually stated that the Accident and Emergency Department at Belfast City Hospital will not be closing. I am disappointed that despite my repeated assurances on this issue, some people still insist on peddling misinformation.

“I want to make it clear that this information is entirely false. The leaflet is misleading, inaccurate and has no status. Its claims are totally bogus and should not be believed. Such scaremongering causes undue concern for people and undermines the efforts of staff who are working hard to deliver top quality care in the health service.

“Belfast City Hospital provides a wide range of valuable services for the population of Belfast and beyond. It will continue to provide a first class healthcare service and employment opportunities, well into the future.”
