Re-appointment of 2 non-executive members to the n.i medical and dental training agency
Friday, 5 September 2008The Minister for Health has announced the re-appointment of two non-executive members to the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA).
Michael McGimpsey, has re-appointed Mr Albert Baird for a further three years and Mrs Judith Eve for a further four years. Both re-appointments took effect from 23 August 2008.
Notes to Editors:
1. The Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency was established as a Special Agency by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety on 1st April 2004 and is responsible for funding, managing and supporting postgraduate medical and dental education within the Northern Ireland Deanery.
2. The board of NIMDTA consists of a non-executive Chair and five non-executive members (three lay members, one medical member and one dental member).
3. Non-executive members of NIMDTA receive annual remuneration of £2,865.
4. The appointments were made with the approval of the Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety. There are no specific qualifications for appointment.
5. The appointments were made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointment for Northern Ireland.
6. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for the political activity of appointees (if any declared) to be published. Mr Albert Baird and Mrs Judith Eve declared that they had not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
RE-APPOINTMENTS
Mr Albert Samuel Baird BA AIA lives in Crossgar. He holds a BA Honours in Mathematics. He is currently a committee member of Saintfield Heritage Society. From October 2002 until March 2004 he served as a member of the former Northern Ireland Council for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education. He was Chair of the HPSS Charities Commission Investment Fund for Northern Ireland from 1995 to 2002 and a non-executive Director of Down Lisburn Trust from 1993 to 2001, and vice-chair of the Trust during that same period. He was also a former Chairman of the Blind Centre for Northern Ireland. Mr Baird was initially appointed to NIMDTA from 23 August 2004 to 22 August 2008. He does not hold any other public appointments and has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
Mrs Judith Mary Eve CBE LLB lives in Belfast. A qualified Barrister at Law, Mrs Eve serves as a Director of BIH Housing Association. She was Chair of the Civil Service Commissioners for Northern Ireland until 2006. Prior to the establishment of the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency in April 2004, she was a member of the Northern Ireland Council for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education. Mrs Eve was a former manager of the International Liaison Office at Queen’s University and Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University. She was non-executive Director of North and West Belfast HSS Trust from 1993 to 2000. Mrs Eve is currently a part-time legal Chairman of The Appeals Service Northern Ireland (Social Security) and an Independent Assessor for the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland (OCPANI). Mrs Eve was initially appointed to NIMDTA from 23 August 2004 to 22 August 2008. She does not hold any other public appointments and has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
