Poots announces programme of over 250 family fun days
Thursday, 15 April 2010Environment Minister Edwin Poots today announced the Northern Ireland Environment Agency’s (NIEA) programme of spring and summer events.
Some of the events will include ‘Castle Archdale Outdoor Activity Nature Day’, ‘Lughnasa Fair’ and ‘Leave No Trace’ which will be held across Northern Ireland, providing visitors with a chance to learn about their local environment.
Mr Poots said: "The Northern Ireland Environment Agency runs a diverse programme of over 250 events throughout the year. Many of these events are free of charge and I would encourage everyone, young and not-so young, to get out to enjoy themselves.
"As well as experiencing a great day out, visitors can take the opportunity to learn about what they can do to help protect Northern Ireland’s beautiful environment."
Carrickfergus Castle, one of Northern Ireland’s most iconic buildings, will host an extensive programme of living history re-enactments, music, storytelling and combat demonstrations.
John McMillen, Chief Executive of NIEA said: "NIEA is responsible for maintaining, protecting and conserving over 250 sites and properties throughout Northern Ireland, from country parks and nature reserves to castles, abbeys and archaeological sites.
"We are delighted to offer a variety of events for all ages and tastes. We hope that as many people as possible will come along and find out more about our properties, as well as enjoy the fun activities we will be providing on the day."
