County Tyrone car breaker fined 250 for waste offences

Friday, 9 January 2009

A Co Tyrone man was fined £250 plus £10 court costs today for breaches of waste management legislation.

Francis James McGirr (57) of Longhill Road, Trillick was fined at Omagh Magistrates’ court.

Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), formerly Environment and Heritage Service (EHS), officers investigated an end of life vehicle (ELV) site at Longhill Road, Trillick on 26 February 2008, where a substantial quantity of waste, mostly in ELVs and ELV parts was deposited. The site did not have a licence to operate as an authorised treatment facility for ELVs. Officers estimated that around 200 ELVs were on site at the time of the visit.
