Templepatrick business man fined £3000 for waste offences
Tuesday, 13 January 2009A County Antrim business man was fined £3,000 plus £262 court costs at Antrim Magistrates’ Court today.
Mr Brian Reid (44), of Printshop Road, Templepatrick, was fined for breaches of waste management legislation.
On 4 July 2006, officers of the Environment and Heritage Service, EHS, (now Northern Ireland Environment Agency, NIEA) visited a site located on Knockcairn Road, Dundrod in response to complaints of unauthorised waste disposal. Upon entering the site officers observed deposits of thousands of tonnes of controlled waste, including construction and demolition waste.
EHS officers revisited the site on Knockcairn Road on 31 July 2006 and observed that further deposits of controlled waste had occurred.

1. Mr Reid was fined £1,500 on two counts. The charges related to breaches of the following Articles of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997;
4(1)(a) deposit controlled waste, or knowingly cause or knowingly permit controlled waste to be deposited in or on any land unless a waste management licence authorising the deposit is in force and the deposit is in accordance with the licence:
4(1)(b) treat, keep or dispose of controlled waste, or knowingly cause or knowingly permit controlled waste to be treated, kept or disposed of
(i) in or on any land, or
(ii) by means of any mobile plant
except under and in accordance with a waste management licence.
