Poots sees nature at its best in Crumlin

Thursday, 9 July 2009

Environment Minister, Edwin Poots, today stressed that preserving the environment is everyone’s responsibility.

The Minister was speaking as he met with representatives from the Ulster Wildlife Trust, in Crumlin, to discuss a range of environmental issues including planning policies, biodiversity and new initiatives affecting the marine environment.

Mr Poots said: “I appreciate the opportunity to discuss important conservation issues with organisations such as the Ulster Wildlife Trust. The views of all voluntary and representative groups are crucial in helping the Department devise and shape our policies. I look forward to having future discussions with other organisations and individuals who are committed to preserving our important natural heritage.”

After the meeting the Minister toured the farm of the Trust’s Vice-Chairman, Tom McClelland, to see the measures he has been undertaking to promote biodiversity.

The Minister said: “It is great to see at first hand practical actions being taken to encourage and promote nature conservation. I commend Mr McClelland and the wider membership of the Ulster Wildlife Trust in being so proactive in helping to safeguard our countryside.”
