Aghalee man fined £500 for Illegal waste disposal
Wednesday, 22 July 2009A Co. Armagh man was today fined a total of £500 plus £16 costs at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court for breaches of waste management legislation.
Mr Aiden Joseph Lavery, (47), of Boghead Bridge Road, Aghalee, pleaded guilty to two offences and was fined £250 for each charge.
In 2007, Officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, (formerly the Environment and Heritage Service) carried out site inspections on land at Derryola Bridge Road, Aghalee, where they observed that land had been infilled with clay and stones.
On a follow up visit to the site in February 2008 officers observed that more waste material had been deposited on the land including bricks, tarmac, concrete and clay. A ‘No Dumping’ sign previously erected on the site had been removed.
Mr Lavery admitted having no waste management authorisation to deposit the waste on his land. Mr Lavery subsequently removed 150 tonnes of the waste material to a licensed facility.
