Margey exhibition at Bellaghy Bawns brings past to life
Tuesday, 21 July 2009The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) today announced it is to host a collection of work by Kilrea artist Adrian Margey at Bellaghy Bawn this summer.
The select collection of 20 original pieces will explore local historical sites and rural life.
NIEA Archaeologist Paul Logue, said: “We are looking forward to hosting another successful exhibition at Bellaghy Bawn. The exhibition features bold, vibrant and contemporary portrayals of iconic sites such as Dunluce Castle, Ardboe Cross and Beaghmore Stone Circles.”
After a year of holding large solo exhibitions across Northern Ireland, Adrian looked forward to this latest opportunity. He said: “I was thrilled when I was invited to exhibit at Bellaghy Bawn given the site’s historical importance and its close associations with Seamus Heaney.
“The exhibition is being held in the flanker tower which is a great space, very unusual, and according to local folklore - the very centre of Ulster. The work going on show depicts other historical sites and landmarks in the region as well as nostalgic depictions of Irish life and traditions.”
The Bellaghy Bawn, a fortified house, was built in the 17th Century on lands granted to the Vinters Company of London during the plantation of Co. Londonderry.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday 22 July and continues until Sunday 16 August. To find out more log on to
