NIEA to celebrate inspiring young environmentalists
Monday, 22 June 2009The next generation of environmentalists were today urged to enter a new competition celebrating young people involved in inspirational green projects.
The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) has agreed to sponsor a new award at this year’s NIEA Sustainable Ireland Awards in Belfast’s Ramada Hotel in September.
Young people involved in environmental projects across Northern Ireland will be encouraged to enter the “Most Inspiring Environmental Project By Young People” award.
The award, which will be judged by NIEA staff, will reward those groups of young people in our society who are positively contributing to sustainable development.
NIEA Assistant Director of Corporate Services Bernard McClure said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring this award.
“The contribution of young people to the future of our environment is so important, and there are so many groups of young people who are really making a difference already.
“This award really highlights these key projects and the real difference that they are making everyday, and will hopefully inspire others to get involved with environmental projects in their local area.”
