Craigavon farmer fined £2,000 for eight waste offences
Monday, 9 March 2009A Co Armagh farmer has been fined a total of £2,000 plus £32 court costs at Craigavon Magistrates’ court today.
Cormac Green (40), Boghead Bridge Road, Aghalee, Craigavon, pleaded guilty to eight breaches of waste management legislation and was fined £250 for each charge.
Officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (formerly the Environment and Heritage Service) visited the site on a number of occasions between 15 August 2006 and 24 August 2007 in response to complaints of unauthorised waste disposal.
Upon entering the site officers observed deposits of an estimated 8,000 tonnes controlled waste consisting of mixed construction and demolition material including bricks, rubble and clay. The site had no waste management authorisation in place.

1. Mr Green pleaded guilty to eight charges relating to breaches of the following Articles of the Waste & Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997. Mr Green was fined £250 for each charge.
a. Article 4(1)(a) On 15 August 2006, depositing controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited in or on any land unless a waste management licence authorising the deposit is in force and the deposit is in accordance with the licence.
b. Article 4(1)(a) On 8 September 2006, depositing controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited in or on any land unless a waste management licence authorising the deposit is in force and the deposit is in accordance with the licence.
c. Article 4(1)(a) On 5 July 2007 depositing controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited in or on any land unless a waste management licence authorising the deposit is in force and the deposit is in accordance with the licence.
d. Article 4(1)(a) On 24 July 2007, depositing controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited in or on any land unless a waste management licence authorising the deposit is in force and the deposit is in accordance with the licence.
e. Article 4(1)(b) On 15 August 2006, treating, keeping or disposing of controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be treated or kept in or on land except in accordance with a waste management licence.
f. Article 4(1)(b) On 8 September 2006, treating, keeping or disposing of controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be treated or kept in or on land except in accordance with a waste management licence.
g. Article 4(1)(b) On 5 July 2007, treating, keeping or disposing of controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be treated or kept in or on land except in accordance with a waste management licence.
h. Article 4(1)(b) On 24 July 2007, treating, keeping or disposing of controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be treated or kept in or on land except in accordance with a waste management licence.
