Dungannon abattoir fined £1,300 for pollution offencesTuesday, 13 May 2008
Dunbia (Northern Ireland) Ltd of Granville Industrial Estate, Granville, Dungannon Co Tyrone was fined a total of £1,300 plus costs of £404.58 at Dungannon Magistrates' Court on 12 May 2008 for two pollution offences.
On 17 January 2007 an Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) official inspected an unnamed tributary of the Oona River and observed a foul smelling discharge with a strong red colour.
Statutory samples lifted on 17 and 18 January 2007 confirmed that the discharge contained poisonous noxious and polluting matter which would have been potentially harmful to fish life.
The company pleaded guilty to the offences of making a polluting discharge to a waterway on 17 and 18 January 2007 and was fined £500 and £800 respectively plus costs of £404.58.
