Dungannon company fined for pollution offenceTuesday, 13 May 2008
A T Sand & Gravel Ltd of 56 Cavanoneill Road, Pomeroy, Dungannon Co Tyrone was fined £1,000 plus costs of £121.81 at Dungannon Magistrates' Court on 12 May 2008 for a pollution offence.
On 28 April 2007 an Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) official inspected a tributary of the Ballinderry River and found it to be heavily contaminated with suspended solids giving the river an orange/brown colour.
A statutory sample confirmed that the discharge was polluting and would have been potentially harmful to fish life.
The company pleaded guilty to the offence of making a polluting discharge to a waterway.
