Dungannon man fined £3,000 for pollution offence

A Co Tyrone man was today fined at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court for causing water pollution.

Mr Anthony McGahey, Killary Lane, Stewartstown, pleaded guilty in respect of the breach and was fined £3,000 plus £28 court costs.

On 24 April 2008, an Inspector acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), investigated a pollution incident affecting an unnamed tributary of the Ballinderry River.

The Inspector traced the polluting discharge to poultry sheds on the Templereagh Road, Stewartstown, and took statutory samples of the discharge.
