Company fined for unauthorised work on a listed building

A Co Down company has today been fined for unauthorised part demolition and subsequent works to a listed building.

Sandybay Associates of 91 Warren Road, Donaghadee pleaded guilty at Newtownards Magistrates' Court to the unauthorised works to a Grade B2 listed building at 33-35 New Road, Donaghadee and was fined £5,000 plus £87 court costs.

The Planning Service brought the action under Article 44 of the Planning (NI) Order 1991.

1. Article 44 of the Planning (NI) Order 1991 indicates that any person who carries out unauthorised works for the demolition or alterations, extensions in any manner which would affect its character as a building of special architectural or historic interest shall be guilty of an offence.
