Postal dispute - driving licences, vehicle licences and MOTs

Thursday, 22 October 2009

The Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) today issued advice to customers in light of the postal dispute.

A spokesman for the DVA said: "Drivers who have applied for a renewal driving licence may continue to drive if they hold a valid licence and their application has been received by the Agency.

"Drivers with a medical condition may also continue to drive unless they have been advised not to do so by their GP. However this does not apply to drivers who have had their driving licence refused, revoked or have been disqualified.

"Customers can renew vehicle licences (car tax) at the Post Offices listed on the DVA website www.dvani.gov.uk or at their nearest Motor Tax Office, in Armagh, Ballymena, Belfast, Coleraine, Downpatrick, Enniskillen; Londonderry and Omagh.

"Customers may also book a driving test, MOT or practical test online at www.dvani.gov.uk or by telephone on 0845 247 2471. It is important to take a note of the appointment details at the time of booking as they may not receive an appointment letter in time for the test."

The Agency will issue further advice as necessary. Information is also available on www.nidirect.gov.uk
