Justice Minister David Ford launches Justice Awards

By extending the closing date for nominations by two weeks the Minister is encouraging people to grasp the opportunity of recognising individuals or teams who have made an outstanding contribution to the criminal justice system within their local community.

David Ford said: “These Awards provide an opportunity for the unsung heroes to have their efforts recognised in making their communities safer places.

“It is important to acknowledge the commitment and dedication that those people contribute to society. So I encourage you to tell us about those individuals or groups that make a real difference to your community by nominating them for one of the ‘Justice in the Community Awards’.”

Awards will be made to three ‘Justice Champions’ who are working at the heart of our communities – including volunteers – to improve justice for all. Each award will be to the value of £500 for equipment or services to benefit the winner’s local community. Highly commended awards may also be made at the discretion of the judging panel.

Examples of the excellent work that is taking place within communities are already coming in. To encourage more to become involved the Minister has extended the deadline to Friday 12 August for receipt of nominations.
