Minister praises work of family group conference

Tuesday, 21 September 2010

Justice Minister David Ford has praised the work of the Family Group Conference Forum in Northern Ireland.

The minister attended an event at Parliament Building this morning for the launch of the Family Conference Standards.

David Ford said: “It is important to recognise the contribution and work undertaken of the Family Group Conference in helping to prevent or reduce offending throughout our society. This work is another important step in the reshaping of the justice system ensuring less offending, fewer victims and safer communities.”

The FGC Forum also presented certificates to those practitioners who have recently completed the FGC Co-Ordinators’ Accredited Programme.

The Minister said:” I would like to offer my congratulations to those professionals who have taken the opportunity to enhance their learning and skills through this accredited programme.  By improving the quality and consistency of available training, and by setting standards for the delivery of Family Group Conferences, children, young people and families across Northern Ireland will benefit from a highly professional service.”
