Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has presented DRD funded bursary awards to eight local university students.
Wednesday, 22 February 2012

Five students from Queen’s University Belfast and three from University of Ulster were successful from a total of 22 applicants in winning Department for Regional Development bursaries.

The scheme is wholly funded by Department for Regional Development to help local students further their studies in engineering and transport.

Danny Kennedy said: “I was very impressed by all the applications we received and I congratulate everyone who took part.

“Last week I secured almost £500million of investment in our roads infrastructure, bringing with it the potential for around 2,500 jobs in construction and engineering.

“We must invest in our young people. We need enthusiastic and motivated individuals to consider construction and engineering as a career choice in Northern Ireland and I am delighted to be able to support our local universities and students with this practical and tangible bursary.”

The bursary was established in 2009 and has already helped 30 local students develop their studies in the areas of engineering and transportation.
