Kennedy announces progress on 2.3million investment in North Down
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has set out Roads Service’s progress on investment totalling £2.3million for maintenance schemes in the North Down Borough this year.
~ Tuesday, 18 October 2011
Speaking ahead of this evening’s meeting between Roads Service and North Down Borough Council, the Minister said: “A wide range of improvement and maintenance schemes is underway or already complete in the North Down Borough. These included an upgrade of carriageway road marking on the A2 Belfast to Bangor route over two phases. One phase covered Ballyrobert Road to Springhill flyover with the other from the flyover to Ballyrobert Road.
“In addition, enhanced lane designation and high friction surfacing is programmed for the Springhill Road roundabout at Crawfordsburn Road, Bangor.
“The priorities and constraints placed on funding levels by Budget 2010 mean it is likely the programme of local transport and safety measures in 2012/13 and 2013/14 will be under considerable pressure. While current indications are that funding for resurfacing and minor improvement works will be very limited next year, I remain committed to delivering these important schemes as resources permit. The autumn round of Council meetings is a timely opportunity for Councils to discuss potential schemes and priorities for incoming and future years."
At the meeting, Deputy Divisional Roads Manager Bertie Ellison highlighted a number of improvement and maintenance schemes currently planned or progressed this year.
He said: “I am pleased to note the planned provision of enhanced signing and road markings comprising a collision remedial scheme at Ballysallagh Road from Ballybarnes Road to Crawfordsburn Road.
“In addition, carriageway resurfacing has been completed at various locations including Gransha Road, Maryville Road/Park; Ballymaconnell Road South plus Brook Street and Demense Road, Holywood.”
Mr Ellison also referred to a number of traffic calming schemes that are currently programmed for Brunswick Road, Bryansburn Road and Church View/Spencer Street, Holywood. He saud: “These will complement recently completed road safety works which include another traffic calming scheme at Skipperstone Road/Whitehill Drive and Safer Routes to School programmes at Holywood and Glencraig primaries and Rupert Steiner, Holywood."
