DRD Roads Service condemns threat to Traffic Attendants

Friday, 1 August 2008

DRD Roads Service today condemned a threat to Traffic Attendants from dissident republicans in West Belfast

.

On Thursday 31 July 2008, Roads Service’s Parking Enforcement contractor, NCP Services Ltd (NCP), received a written message from the PSNI stating that dissident Republicans had made a threat to Traffic Attendants in the West Belfast area.

NCP withdrew staff from the area and informed the Department of the situation. Roads Service officials held meetings today with NCP management.

DRD Minister Conor Murphy, who is currently on holiday, has been made aware of the threat and condemns it totally.

Simon Richardson, Parking Enforcement Manager with Roads Service said: "We have no idea why such a threat has been made against Traffic Attendants working in West Belfast. Traffic Attendants do a very important job in all parts of the city by reducing illegal parking and keeping traffic moving. Our work is solely focused on traffic management and keeping traffic flowing in busy areas - having no parking enforcement will only have a negative impact in the area."

NCP, DRD, PSNI and other key stakeholders will be having meetings early next week with regard to this issue.
