Good progress on £2.5million investment in Magherafelt
Tuesday, 11 December 2007Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, has welcomed Roads Service’s progress on investment totalling £2.5million in Magherafelt District Council area this year.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s meeting between Roads Service and Magherafelt District Council, the Minister said: “Phase one of the road realignment scheme on the A54 at Ballymacombs Road near Smithstown Crossroads, Bellaghy, is substantially complete. This phase involves filling the area in advance of the main works in order to induce settlement in what are relatively poor ground conditions. Other schemes completed in the current year to date include footways at Ballynease Road and Culbane Road, Portglenone; Knockagin Road, Desertmartin; and Annaghmore Road, Castledawson."
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Roads Service’s Western Division Manager, Pat Doherty, welcomed the level of investment in local transport and safety measures in the Magherafelt District Council area. Other schemes in this year’s programme include provision of a footway at Craigadick Road, Maghera, and traffic calming schemes at Gulladuff and at Blackpark Road, Creagh. Provision of Safer Routes to Schools projects at Ampertaine Primary School, Upperlands, and St John’s Primary School, Swatragh, are also planned.
Mr Doherty said: “We will, in delivering any scheme, attempt to minimise the disruption that will arise from our works and where appropriate will give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information prior to the works.”
