Roads Service reports on schemes in Banbridge area
Monday, 28 June 2010Transport Minister, Conor Murphy welcomed the successful completion of Roads Service's 2009/2010 programme of works and the planned £1.9 million for structural road maintenance in the Banbridge District Council area this year.
Speaking ahead of this evening's meeting between Roads Service and Banbridge District Council, the Minister said: "A range of local schemes have been delivered successfully by Roads Service in the past year. While the tightening public expenditure environment in the year ahead will be challenging, Roads Service remains committed to ensure it can make best use of our resources and continue to deliver quality public services.”
Improvement Schemes carried out in 2009/10 included visibility improvements on the B10 Scarva Road with the Point Road, Banbridge. An Improvement scheme currently under construction on the A50 Castlewellan Road at Corbet Bridge. This scheme is designed to improve forward visibility and improve the road realignment on this busy stretch of carriageway. It is anticipated that work will be completed by late summer 2010.
In total 35 lane kilometres of carriageway were resurfaced, the most significant schemes being the A26 Lurgan Road, Lenaderg.
Speaking at the meeting, Strategic Road Improvement Manager, Mr Leslie McCullough welcomed the continued investment in road maintenance, which is helping to rectify the damage caused by the severe conditions last winter. He said: “A programme of resurfacing is currently programmed in the Banbridge area with a stretch of the Lurgan Road, Seapatrick due to commence at the beginning of July 2010.”
