M1 unauthorised advertising - Newry firm fined

Thursday, 27 May 2010

A Newry man, Vincent McGuinness, operating a billboard business from Bridge View Industrial Estate, Newry, was found guilty today at Lisburn Magistrates' Court in relation to the erection of unauthorised advertisements.

Vincent McGuinness was fined the maximum amount of £1,000 for advertisements displayed adjacent to the M1 motorway and ordered to pay legal costs of £75 and Court costs of £16.

Roads Service brought about the charges under Article 21 of the Roads (NI) Order 1993 which relates to the prohibition and control of advertising on or near special roads.

Summons were previously issued against several other businesses and this was successful in having the offending advertisements removed. This prosecution is part an ongoing process in dealing with this illegal activity.
