Minister McCausland announces £132,000 funding for an Economic and Employability Programme for Coalisland and Dungannon Neighbourhood Renewal Areas
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has awarded funding of over £132,000 for an Economic and Employability Programme for the Coalisland and Dungannon Neighbourhood Renewal Areas.

This programme will bring significant benefits to the residents of both Coalisland and Dungannon NRA.
The programme is made up of the following five elements:-
- The Building Social Entrepreneurship Programme.
- Exploring Enterprise 2 Programme.
- The Cutie Programme.
- The Licence to Drive and Work Programme.
- Adult Homework Club.
This project has been developed by The Dungannon and Coalisland Economic and Employability Sub Committee which included STEP, South West College, Dungannon West, Coalisland Training Services. This project will bring significant benefit to the Social Enterprises already operating within the NRAs
Minister McCausland said: “This is great news for the people of Coalisland and Dungannon and will provide real and significant benefits for residents in the Neighbourhood Renewal Area. This programme is a good example of both partnerships working together collaboratively to meet the needs of residents. It is hoped that best practice will be shared between all areas within Western Division."
The project will be managed by South Tyrone Empowerment Partnership (STEP) .
To date, the total amount of money spent on Neighbourhood Renewal in Coalisland NRA is over £1.8million and Dungannon NRA is over £1.7million.

- The Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy ‘People and Place’ was published in June 2003 to close the gap between the quality of life for people in the most deprived neighbourhoods and the rest of society. The Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy has four interlinking strategic objectives.

- Economic Renewal – to develop economic activity in the most deprived neighbourhoods and connect them to the wider urban economy.
