Housing Minister welcomes installation of carbon monoxide detectors

Housing Minister Nelson McCausland has welcomed the announcement from the Housing Executive that it is to install 40,000 carbon monoxide detectors in its homes.

Minister McCausland said; “Safety in the home has to be a primary concern for any landlord and I have previously raised the issue of carbon monoxide detectors with the Housing Executive and also the housing associations.

“I welcome the decision of the Housing Executive to install 40,000 carbon monoxide detectors in its homes. This programme follows an earlier programme to install 3,500 carbon monoxide detectors in homes with glass fronted fires. Many housing associations have already committed to fitting carbon monoxide detectors through new build or during maintenance programmes. This work sets an excellent example to all landlords, and indeed home owners, to safeguard the health of those living in properties which burn fossil fuels.”
