McCausland invites development proposals for the SCORE and Dock Street car park sites in Strabane town centre

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced the next stage in the regeneration of Strabane town centre.
Tuesday, 21 May 2013

The Minister confirmed that URS Infrastructure and Environment UK Ltd have been appointed to consider opportunities for the regeneration of the SCORE site and adjacent Dock Street car park in Strabane.

Welcoming the appointment, Minister McCausland said: “I am pleased to announce that consultants have been appointed to assist my Department and its partners to bring forward development proposals for this strategically important site in Strabane town centre. A key objective in the overall redevelopment of the site is to identify a project that will create employment and increase economic activity throughout the town centre.

“I would urge potential private sector developers and others interested in the site to make their proposals known to the consultants."

The SCORE site and Dock Street car park were identified in the Strabane Masterplan as part of an 'Arc of Opportunity' within the town centre with either a leisure or mixed use development with a retail element proposed for the site. As part of their work, the appointed consultants will now assess the viability of these options, explore any other unidentified options and liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders including private sector developers and statutory agencies before undertaking a market testing exercise to determine the level of interest in developing the site.

If sufficient market interest can be established the consultants will prepare and issue a Development Brief to enable prospective developers to bring forward their detailed proposals for the site.

Potential developers and others interested in the site are asked to contact URS Infrastructure and Environment UK Ltd’s Project Manager, Richard Heasley in the first instance to discuss their proposals. His telephone number is (028) 9070 5111 and e-mail is richard.heasley@urs.com
