Northern Ireland Benefits Statistics Summary at November 2012

The Northern Ireland Benefit Statistics Summary is produced each quarter by the Analytical Services Unit (ASU) of the Department for Social Development.

The Summary provides an up to date and concise overview of the main benefits administered by the Social Security Agency:

Key findings from the latest survey include:

  • · At November 2012 the number of Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants was 61,520 and the number of Jobseeker’s Allowance recipients was 57,640.
  • At November 2012 the number of Employment and Support Allowance claimants was 57,110 and the number of Employment and Support Allowance recipients was 53,740.
  • At November 2012 the number of Incapacity Benefit claimants was 52,910 and the number of Incapacity Benefit recipients was 33,000.
  • At November 2012 the number of Severe Disablement Allowance claimants was 9,980 and the number of Severe Disablement Allowance recipients was 9,760.
  • At November 2012 there were 65,880 claimants of Income Support.
  • At November 2012 there were 264,540 people of working age claiming a key benefit.
  • At November 2012 the number of State Pension claimants was 302,030.
  • At November 2012 there were 94,070 claimants and 116,470 beneficiaries of Pension Credit.
  • At November 2012 there were 307,840 people over state pension age claiming a key benefit.
  • At November 2012 the number of Disability Living Allowance recipients was 192,280.
  • At November 2012 the number of Attendance Allowance recipients was 55,160.
  • At November 2012 the number of Carer’s Allowance claimants was 62,220.
