Ritchie opens state of the art football pitches in Poleglass

Tuesday, 25 August 2009

Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie MLA, today officially opened new pitches at Colin Valley Football Club.

The Department for Social Development has invested £390,000 to provide the much needed sporting facilities, including a new 3rd Generation (3G) synthetic pitch, the refurbishment of the Club’s turf pitch and improving access to the grounds.

Margaret Ritchie said: “I want to close the gap between those who live in disadvantaged areas and those who do not. Providing these local facilities offers an important opportunity for the participation and development of physical and social activities for people living within the Colin Neighbourhood Renewal Area.

“I am aware that many years of planning and hard work have gone into bringing this project in Colin to fruition. I want to commend the Chairperson Kevin Murphy and volunteers of Colin Valley Football Club for their vision and determination which has culminated in this state of the art facility, that will help meet the recreational and sporting needs of the community.

“I would also like to congratulate Colin Valley Football Club on moving up to the Northern Amateur Football League. I am confident that these new facilities will help contribute to further successes for the Club in the future.”
