Attwood announces £12,000 funding boost for Dunclug estate
Tuesday, 10 August 2010Social Development Minister Alex Attwood today announced funding for a summer programme for young people in the Dunclug estate in Ballymena.
The Summer programme includes group based work, outdoor pursuits and day trips for up to one hundred young people aged from five to 17. The programme is being managed by the North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB) Youth Service.
Alex Attwood said: "This funding is good news for young people in the Dunclug Estate. Alongside making this financial help available, I want to promote the values of self reliance and social responsibility, values that can be achieved through participation. This scheme can help in these objectives.
"I would encourage the young people of Dunclug to take advantage of opportunities such as this."
The funding also includes training opportunities for adults who volunteer with the Dunclug Youth Forum. The Forum supervises the activities and events during the summer programme. Volunteers get the opportunity to either complete certificates in Youth Work or an Adult Trainee Leaders Course. Training in Sports Leaders Proficiency are also available.
