Six convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry Court
Friday, 20 August 2010Six people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates' Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
A Londonderry woman (57) claimed Income Support totalling £9,801 while failing to declare capital. She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £109.
A man (25) from Londonderry claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £2,156 while working. He was given a £100 fine and ordered to pay court costs of £61.
A second Londonderry woman (42) claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £5,785 while working. She was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £76.
All three are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
Another Londonderry woman (28) claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £2,518 while working. She was given a conditional discharge for two years. A compensation order was granted for £2,518.
A second man (39) from Londonderry claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £2,303 while failing to declare capital. He was given a £200 fine. A compensation order was granted for £2,138.
A third Londonderry man (39) claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £1,771 while working. He was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £88. A compensation order was granted for £1,491.
