Minister Ritchie to review development proposal for Queen’s Parade

Friday, 19 December 2008

Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie, has received a response to the Department’s Development Brief for Queen’s Parade, Bangor from the developer Karl Greenfarm Limited. The development brief which set out the regeneration requirements for the site was issued in June.

Speaking today the Minister said. “I am pleased to receive the development proposal for Queen’s Parade from Karl Greenfarm Limited and I trust that the plans will lead to the long awaited rejuvenation of Bangor town centre.

"My officials have already established an expert panel comprising senior officials from all relevant government departments and agencies to review the developer’s response. I have asked them to share the panel’s findings with public representatives within the next few months.

"In carrying out their work they will be conscious of both the significant opportunity to revitalise the centre of Bangor and the need to ensure that the scheme is sustainable in the current challenging market conditions.”

Addressing the needs of local people the Minister said: “I am acutely aware that the proposal needs to consider the needs of the current residents living in the Borough and particularly those in the vicinity of Queen’s Parade. Consultation with the local community is important and will take place as we move forward in the New Year.”
