Comber man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Downpatrick Magistrates’ court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

He claimed Income Support and Incapacity Benefit totalling £25,876 while failing to disclose capital. He was given a two year prison sentence suspended for three years.

He has since repaid the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 425 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
